Full disclosure: I selected this one because of the running time of just 75 minutes. Also, it was in the "psychological horror" category which, for me, translates to "movies I probably won't understand." And this one did not disappoint!
A door-to-door salesman (Sam) ends up stranded in a town somewhere in California's Mojave desert. Good set-up for a horror movie, right? There's a lot going on in this one. A strange red light in the blinding, daytime sky. A bizarre radio show always playing. Nobody answering Sam's calls. Then, things get worse and he is fighting for his life against masked townspeople.
The sense of dread and isolation make this movie great. Sam has no idea why everyone is hunting him but we feel his panic and fear in every scene. The problem? The end explained nothing. I'm okay with a little ambiguity, but the movies ends with us having no clue what any of the events meant. I'm giving it a B because it was a gripping, tense watch. Would have been an A if they wrapped up...any of it. Streaming on Shudder.
