Naturally, tonight's movie was John Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece, Halloween. It is my favorite horror movie and each viewing brings me back to the Granada Theater in Malden where fourteen-year-old me sat mesmerized.
Hundreds of movies have tried to capture the magic of this film and all have fallen short. Only five kills (and two dogs) and very little blood, but still the best horror movie ever made. Bob's kill has been replicated over and over, and the scene with Laurie in the closet remains one of the tensest sequences filmed.
Also, the best score to a horror movie.
There are many great horror movies, but there is only one Halloween. Streaming on Shudder.
