Children of the Corn (1984) - Day 4 of the 2024 Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

Writer's picture: tomdeadytomdeady

It's been a while since I revisited this one, and what better time than during October? Listen, this film was never destined for an Oscar, but it had its moments. Creepy kids brandishing sickles, endless fields of rustling corn, and an eerily desolate small town...all good ingredients for a horror movie.

One of the main characters, Burt, made virtually every wrong decision a character could make, yet somehow his girlfriend (played by Linda Hamilton) had the restraint not to kill him herself and he survived to face off against Malachai (played by a Shaun White doppelgänger).

The movie had some scary scenes and did an okay job of saving "he who walks behind the rows" until the climax. But it lacked the sense of dread the film should have had and felt like a made-for-TV movie. I'm giving it a C. Streaming on Shudder.
